He also describes the native habitat and history of many fascinating plants and fungi, both common and unusual: from the camas bulbs eaten by the Native Americans of the Pacific Northwest, to the Italian and Spanish favourite, Caesar s amanita; from hostas, the familiar garden foliage consumed as a succulent vegetable in Japan, to the newly popular Australian citrus fruits. The essential illustrated mycological encyclopedia, this book is also clear, user friendly and will appeal to a wide range of readers.Unsurpassed in both illustrative and descriptive detail, Mushrooms contains over 1,250 photographs, often showing the specimens in various stages of growth, and includes all the latest botanical and common names as well as current ecological information on endangered species. He was educated at St Christopher School in Letchworth and – after national service with the Royal Air Force in Canada – at Chelsea School of Art. He next joined Ogilvy & Mather Advertising, where he rose to be art director.[4] He turned freelance in 1968. He took pictures for the album Goodbye for rock band Cream, on a commission from his friend Alan Aldridge, and later took pictures for the Jack Bruce albums Songs for a Tailor and Out of the Storm.
